NYSPHSAA Adjusts Championship Schedules for This Weekend
Latham, NY- The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Inc. (NYSPHSAA) is making changes to the start times of two State Championship events to be contested on Friday November 16th. The changes are necessary because of the snow storm that is expected to impact much of New York State.
The start of the Girls Swimming and Diving State Championships at Ithaca College will be delayed by two hours. The event will now begin at 12:30pm, with the diving event beginning at 4:00pm. Doors will open for the public to enter the aquatics center at 10:00am. Please note this is only a change to the Friday schedule at Swimming and Diving, Saturdays start time of 10:30am remains the same.
The Class D football semifinal between Moriah and Haldane will be moved to Sunday, November 18th at 12:00pm at Middletown High School. The game was originally scheduled to be played Friday, November 16th at 4pm. The Class A football semifinal between Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Cornwall is unchanged. That game will be played Friday, November 16th at Middletown High School at 8pm.
“We feel making these changes to our Championship events gives our student-athletes and coaches the best opportunity to get to the venues safely and still compete for a Championship”, Dr. Robert Zayas NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “This storm is expected to impact a large portion of the state, and we want to allow people extra time to travel to our State Championships. We want to thank the venues for allowing us to adjust the schedules and working with us to have the most successful Championships possible.”
