THIS YEAR’S DUAL MEET TOURNAMENT is the second annual official wrestling team championship event in New York State. Over the last three years the NYSPHSAA Wrestling State Committee researched and developed the concept, then in October 2016 the NYSPHSAA Executive Committee approved the event. Last year, Wantagh won the Division I title and Mount Sinai won the Division II championship.

This January, the tournament will be streamed by Track Wrestling/NFHS Network on https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/associations/nysphsaa for $9.99 per month.

TWENTY-FOUR TEAMS will participate in the event which includes 12 from Division I and 12 from Division II. Where applicable, each Section will have a representative in each division.  If a Section does not have a Division I or II representative, the state committee will use a pre-set formula to determine at-large entries.  It is anticipated four at-large teams will be awarded to fill the brackets this year with teams being determined on Sunday, January 20th. All 24 teams will participate in pool play matches starting at 9 am on the 26th.  Each division will have four pools of three teams each with the pool champions advancing to the semifinals starting at 3 pm.

ALTOGETHER, APPROXIMATELY 600 WRESTLERS will participate in this year’s dual meet event. After a formal bid, it was voted to accept SRC Arena as the host site for the event from 2018 through 2020.  For the last 56 years, NYSPHSAA has hosted only an individual wrestling state tournament with 480 wrestling from around the state competing over two days. That event has taken place the last weekend of February and for 12 of the 14 years has been hosted at the Times Union Center in Albany.

ADVANCE TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE at gofan.co/nysphsaa. Tickets are $10 at the door for the entire day of the tournament with re-entry permitted.  Online tickets can be purchased now for $8 per ticket at www.gofan.co/nysphsaa.
