2020 NYSPHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving Championship Preview

NYSPHSAA BOYS SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS CLOSE OUT
FINAL YEAR AT NASSAU AQUATIC CENTER

The 2020 NYSPHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships head back to the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Long Island on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th. This is the 4th consecutive year and final time the Aquatic Center will host the state meet until the event moves to Ithaca College in 2021.

“The Nassau County Aquatic Center is one of the finest facilities in New York State,” said Peter Hugo, Boys Swimming and Diving Coordinator. “It is a first-class facility in almost all areas so when parents and spectators come to watch an event, they always enjoy themselves. As the Host Coordinator and State Chair, I look forward to welcoming all our coaches, athletes, parents and spectators to the Nassau County Aquatic Center.”

 

Opening ceremonies begin at 10:00 am on March 6th with competition beginning at 10:30 am. The swimming preliminaries make up most of the action during the morning then the diving championships start at 1:00 pm. All diving events will take place on Friday with the champion being crowned Friday evening. The 2019 Diving Champion was sophomore Alex Kenyon from Bloomfield (5). Last year, Jake Newmark from Garden City (8) highlighted the swimming performances by winning both the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle.

 

On Saturday, state championship races start at 10:30 am with awards following the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley and the 50 Freestyle. Later in the afternoon more awards will follow the 100 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle. To conclude the day there will be awards following the 200 Freestyle Relay, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 400 Freestyle Relay and the Most Outstanding Swimmer/Diver award.
