Lloyd L. Mott, a graduate of Cobleskill High School (Section 2), served the NYSPHSAA as its Assistant Director for ten years after an illustrious career as an athletic administrator and coach spanning four decades. After graduating from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor’s in physical education, Mott earned his Master’s at the University of Massachusetts in 1966. His career included positions as Director of Physical Education and Athletics at Broadalbin Central Schools (1966-73) and Cobleskill Central Schools (1973-83) while coaching basketball, track and field and modified football. In 1983, he was hired by the Queensbury district as Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics and Safety. In 1997, the NYSPHSAA hired Mott and he made an immediate contribution with his research in safety and concussion management helping create a prevention, awareness and treatment program. Lloyd’s program earned a $100,000 grant to help implement the program in NYSPHSAA’s 785 member schools. His travel across the state presenting the NYSPHSAA Concussion Program resulted in the formation of the New York State Concussion Management Team (CMT), which worked with the NYS Senate Health Department in development of the NYS Law requiring schools to adopt a Concussion Management Policy and Protocol. The work of the CMT became a significant resource to the NFHS in their development of the Concussion Management Program. As Assistant Director, Mott additionally developed a hazing course “Hazing: Definition and Prevention” which was adopted by many NYSPHSAA schools as well as several State Associations across the country. Lloyd was inducted into the NYSAAA Hall of Fame in 2016, the Cortland “C” Club Hall of Fame, and has been honored with numerous awards in his career including the Professional Contribution Award, the Director of the Year Award, and the Amazing People Award all from the NYSAHPERD. He also received the NYSAAA Distinguished Service Award (1990), the National Federation of State High School Athletic Association’s Citation Award (2013), and was a two-time award winner of the NYSAAA “Apple Award”. Mott retired from NYSPHSAA in 2008.
