Before becoming the longest tenured athletic administrator in Section I history, Hank Roth earned his high school diploma from Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn, NY. After receiving his diploma, he earned a Bachelor’s from Bradley University in Peoria, IL then his Masters at Hunter College. Hank has served as a Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics for 47 years in Section I, which includes Greenburgh Central School District for 25 years and Ardsley Public Schools for 22 years. He also served Section I as a member of the Alignment Committee and for 15 years he was a Conference President and member of the Executive Committee. During his time in Section I Roth has received numerous honors including Section I Athletic Director of the Year in 1988 and the New York State Athletic Director of the Year in 1997. Hank was not just known as an administrator and coach. He was a teacher to his coaches having taught the Theory and Techniques of Coaching for over 16 years with an emphasis on respect and the proper techniques to better educate athletes. Ardsley and its community honored Roth’s contributions by naming its annual basketball tournament the Hank Roth Classic in 2011. In over two decades of work as an Athletic Director at Ardsley, Hank added numerous sports to their athletic program such as bowling, fencing, skiing, boys and girls lacrosse, in addition to introducing the Pioneer Program, which supported athletes with special needs and allowed them to participate in sports. As a coach, Roth led his teams to ten league championships, multiple Sectional Championships, two NYSPHSAA Regional Championships, and compiled 453 wins as a varsity baseball and basketball coach. Five times he was named the Westchester Coaches Association “Coach of the Year” and twice was honored as the Journal News “Coach of the Year”.
