Hall of Fame
Molly Huddle was one of the most successful long distance runners in New York State. While running for Elmira Notre Dame High School (Section IV), Huddle established herself as one of the best by winning four NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track State Championships (1500m, 3000m) and one individual NYSPHSAA Cross Country State Championship, notching a state record in the 3000m. She also established a national record in the two-mile run during the Adidas Outdoor Championships. Her success in high school led to All-American honors a combined five times for both sports, and in 2002, she was named both the Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year and the New York State Coaches Association Runner of the Year. Molly’s career would’ve been even more decorated in the sport of cross country but her school didn’t formally start a cross country program until her senior year. That Fall of 2001, Huddle ran as a one-runner team with her father as the coach and won every race she competed in including the NYSPHSAA State Meet. In the process, she set 12 course records and finished 4th at the 2001 FootLocker National Cross Country Championships following State and Federation Tournament titles. Following high school, Huddle earned a full scholarship from the University of Notre Dame and went on to have a stellar collegiate career which included setting an NCAA Outdoor Track record in the 5000m with a 15:32.55 time and also being tabbed as an All American 10 times (school record). After graduating from Notre Dame with a degree in Biology in 2006, she continued to compete professionally. Huddle has run in numerous national and international competitions since 2006 including two Olympics, three IAAF World Cross Country Championships, and numerous USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Molly also qualified for six track World Championship teams for Team USA and currently holds an American record for the 10,000m on the track. In 2019, at the age of 34, she won her 5th consecutive USA Track and Field 10,000m title running in 31:58.46.
