Theodore R. Woods was one of the most active athletic administrators in Section V history. Since 1956, Woods has served in dozens of paid, volunteer and appointed capacities for Section V. He spent 35 years at North Rose-Wolcott Central School as physical education teacher, athletic director, vice principal, and principal while also coaching soccer, basketball, baseball, and track at the school. Fifteen years after his hiring, Woods was instrumental in the merging of North Rose and Wolcott schools. His effort and success resulted in him assuming the Vice Principal position at North Rose-Wolcott, but soon after he was appointed new school Principal where he remained for 17 more years.
Woods, known to many in Section V as “the voice of wisdom and experience”, was the Section V Executive Director for eight years after a 13-year stint as Section Secretary. Prior to his rise up the section hierarchy, he was President of the Wayne County Public High School Athletic Association for two years and Wayne County Boys Soccer Coordinator for 10 years leading up to his presidency. Beyond soccer, Ted also was a member of the Section V Boys Basketball Committee and still currently serves on the Section V Finance Committee.
His involvement in athletics also branches out to officiating. Woods has been president of several officials organizations including the Geneva Chapter of Baseball Umpires, the Wayne County Board of Soccer Officials, the New York State Soccer Officials, and the Rochester Chapter of National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials. He was recognized in 1994 as the New York State Soccer Official of the Year and just a year later was recognized as the Finger Lakes Track Official of the Year.
Ted is a member of the Cortland Hall of Fame, New York State High School Soccer Hall of Fame, and Section V Halls of Fame for track and basketball. He also has several awards in his name and an annual scholarship in his name presented to a male soccer player in Section V.
Woods received a bachelors from Cortland in 1953 and a masters from Syracuse University in 1957. He has permanent certification in health, school administrator and supervisor, and teacher of physical education and hygiene.
