Debbie Grant is one of the most accomplished runners to ever come from the state of New York. She began her running career at Ramapo High School as an 8th grader in 1979, and for the next five years she set 15 school running records—more than any one individual in school history. Ms. Grant is also the New York State High School record holder for the 400MH, a five-time New York State champion, and was voted Rockland County’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year three times. Furthermore, she helped lead the Ramapo track team to four consecutive Section 9 team championships, was Rockland County’s first-ever United States Junior National Champion in the 400MH, and a High School All-American.
After graduating from Ramapo in 1983, Ms. Grant attended Villanova University on scholarship where she received her Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and her Master of Science in civil engineering. Once again, her track career was full of accolades including being named a collegiate All-American seven times, a 14-time Big East Champion, and the record holder at Villanova for the 800M. Ms. Grant is also a member of the World Best Record for the 4 x 800M team and holds the fastest split in the Penn Relays for 4 x 800M. Following her outstanding collegiate career, Ms. Grant was voted into the Villanova University Hall of Fame.
Her athletic career continued after graduation as Ms. Grant became a 14-time United States Outdoor Championships finalist, a five-time United States Olympic Trials finalist, and 11 times she was ranked in the Top 10 in the United States. Ms Grant also had the privilege of being a three-time United States vs. Great Britain Dual Team Member.
