Dr. John F. Foley is a highly respected former athletic administrator in the Three Village School District and has made significant contributions to health, physical education and recreation at the local, state and national levels beyond his service to Three Village.

He began his career in 1965 as a coach and teacher at Three Village and soon after became the district’s first athletic director. He retired as the Director of Health Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics in 1990 but accomplished a great deal during his 25-year term at the school as well as serving Section XI and the NYSPHSAA during and after his administration.

From 1978-1988, Dr. Foley was the Section XI coordinator for boys lacrosse, boys basketball, boys volleyball and girls basketball, serving on those respective NYSPHSAA state sport committees as well. With the NYSPHSAA, he was also the chairman of the Modified Sports state committee from 1978-1990 while serving as the President of the Section XI Athletic Association at the beginning of that era. Jack’s contribution to Section XI encompasses several leadership positions including chairman of the Suffolk County Council of Physical Fitness and Sports from 1990-2004 and national vice chairman of the Athletics Directors of National High School Athletic Coaches Association from 1990-98. The NHSACA also honored him in 1988 as the National Athletic Director of the Year.

Formerly an adjunct professor at both Adelphi University and Stony Brook University where he taught athletic administration courses, Dr. Foley has been a consultant to the New York State Education Department and has spoken on athletics and physical education at several major conferences including the National Conference of High School Directors of Athletics, the National Conference of American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and the New York State Athletic Administrators Association (NYSAAA). He has been awarded the National Award of Merit by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and received the State Award of Merit from NYSAAA. In 1993, Jack was inducted into the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame and in 2001, he was inducted into the National Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Jack earned his bachelors at Manhattan, his masters at NYU and his doctorate in physical education at Indiana University.
