Donald Snyder is one of the most successful football coaches in New York State history. He spent 42 years as the head varsity football coach at Farmingdale High School recording a 237-93-8 career record—a remarkable .701 winning percentage.

In his four decades guiding Farmingdale, his teams won 15 Conference Championships and 13 Big 4 Championships. Collectively, Farmingdale also had seven undefeated seasons and captured the Rutgers Cup six times (top Nassau County team). Don’s 1972
squad was ranked 6th in the nation and six years later, his 1978 squad went undefeated and was not scored on once the entire season.

Aside from his coaching duties and successes at Farmingdale, Don taught physical education and driver’s education as well as coached baseball, wrestling and track and field from 1950-1992. He also served as the Vice President of the Section VIII Athletic Council and as Chairman of the Section VIII wrestling program. Coach Snyder is presently the Chairman of the Section V Appeals Committee and also the Assistant Coordinator of the County Football program.

In 1997, Don was honored by the National Football Foundation and presented an award for his significant contributions to amateur football. The same organization named a special award in Don’s honor—The Don Snyder Contribution to Amateur Football Award, which is now given annually to individuals committed to promoting amateur football on Long Island.

Don is a graduate of LeRoy High School in Section V and earned a Bachelors at Springfield and a Masters at Columbia University.
