Gregory Ransom is one of the most influential individuals responsible for the growth of Section I athletics.
He began his career as an American History teacher and the Director of Physical Education and Athletics in July of 1989 at Cornwall Central School District. Greg immediately became known for creating a positive learning environment for student- athletes and demonstrated consistent, transparent, ethical and strong leadership abilities with the school. With student-athletes, he emphasized “Green Dragon Pride” and promoted sportsmanship throughout the school.
Just six years into his tenure, he was appointed President of Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) and also became a representative of the Section IX Athletic Council. In 1998, Greg was elected to the NYSPHSAA Baseball committee for Section IX and in 1999 he was appointed a member of the NYSPHSAA Championship Advisory Committee.
In 2001, Mr. Ransom became the Executive Director of Section I Athletics. He was responsible for overseeing 89 school districts in Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, and Rockland Counties, and was individually responsible for re-organizing and streamlining the daily operation of the Section I office. During his last year serving as Executive Director in 2008, Greg was honored with NYSAAA Apple Appreciation Award and NYSAAA Administrator of the Year for Section I.
Greg earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Central Connecticut State University. He also earned his master’s in social studies and a C.A.S. in education administration from SUNY New Paltz.
