Carl Yastrzemski, a Bridgehampton High School (Section XI) graduate who earned a Bachelors from Merrimack College in 1966, was a three-sport star in baseball, basketball and football in high school. He was a career .512 hitter and threw a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts in the Suffolk Championship baseball game in 1957. He also set the Suffolk County record for most points in a varsity basketball season the same year. Following high school, he was offered a basketball scholarship to Notre Dame University where participated in both basketball and baseball until the Red Sox signed him to a professional contract. “Yaz” enjoyed 23 outstanding seasons as a pro player winning an MVP award, a Triple Crown and earning a spot on the American League All Star roster 18 times. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
