Craig Biggio, a graduate of Kings Park High School (Section XI) and attendee of Seton Hall University, was one of the most prolific baseball and football players on Long Island while competing at Kings Park. He played five positions over a three-year period on the Kings Park varsity baseball team and was quarterback and running back during three years with the football team. His senior year he earned First Team All-Long Island honors and was awarded the Hansen Award for Most Outstanding Football Player in Suffolk County. He earned a scholarship for baseball at Seton Hall and after his junior year was drafted in the first round by the Houston Astros in 1987. During 20 seasons with the Astros, Biggio was a seven-time NL All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award winner, five-time NL Silver Slugger Award winner, Branch Rickey Award winner, Hutch Award winner, two-time recipient of the Heart & Hustle Award, and a Roberto Clemente Award winner. In 2007, the Astros retired Biggio’s number 7 after establishing career records in games played, at-bats, runs scored, hits, doubles and extra-base hits.
