INDOOR TRACK & FIELD STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURN TO
OCEAN BREEZE ATHLETIC COMPLEX

By Robert Lukaszewicz NYSPHSAA Intern Spring 2022

The 2022 New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Indoor Track & Field Championship returns to Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island on Saturday, March 5th.  Ocean Breeze has been the host of the Indoor Track and Field State Championships for the last five years excluding 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It really is a great venue for us,” said Dave Hennessey, longtime Track State Coordinator. “They have a great staff and state-of-the-art technology, including a banked track, that our athletes really enjoy competing on. We hope the athletes and fans get another great experience watching over 1,000 boys and girls participate March 5th.”

Since 2017, Ocean Breeze has hosted a successful event for NYSPHSAA thanks to its size and features. The facility is a 135,000 square foot, state-of-the-art indoor track and field facility with a banked track that can also convert from six to eight lanes with an incline up to 4 ½ feet. This allows for a mix of boys and girls competitions to happen simultaneously.

The boys championship began in 1972 and the girls state meet stared in 1978.

Tickets are only available online and can be purchased at https://gofan.co/app/school/NYSPHSAA. Prices are $10 per ticket which covers the entire day of competition.

The event will be streamed on the NFHS Network, the official broadcasting partner of the NYSPHSAA State Championships.  Doors open one hour prior to the start of events which is schedule for 9 am for the first race.
