The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) is set to host the boys and girls Skiing State Championships on Monday, February 24
th and Tuesday, February 25
th. Alpine will be conducted on the slopes of Gore Mountain while Nordic will be held at North Creek Ski Bowl on the mountain, both are Section 2 venues.
“The NYSPHSAA State Championships are always a great showcase for our New York skiers,” said Bob Underwood, NYSPHSAA Nordic State Sport Coordinator. “Gore Mountain has always been good to us and is a quality venue for both Nordic and Alpine. We look forward to heading there again to conduct the championships.”
Over 200 athletes will compete during two days of competition with awards being presented to those individuals finishing in the top ten and to each girls and boys team champion.
“It will be great to once again crown individual and team state champions,” said Dennis O’Brien, NYSPHSAA Alpine State Sport Coordinator. “So many kids put in hard work to get to this event each year and compete in the top high school event of the year. It will be fun to watch the competition.”
The 2024 championship was held in Lake Placid (Section VII). In 2026, it is scheduled for Bristol Mountain/Harriet Hollister in Section V then in 2027, the event will go to Whiteface Mountain and Mount VanHoevenburg.
The event is free to the public to attend and kicks off at 9:30 am on that Monday with first runs for giant slalom and also 10:00 am with the boys 7.5K classic individual race for nordic. On Tuesday, the competition continues with Slalom at 9:30 am and the 3x3K skate relay at 10:00 am.
