The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships return to Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th.  This is the first year the event is a two-day event and marks the 47th year the state meet has been in existence. Ocean Breeze has hosted for the last nine years.

“Its exciting to see our Indoor Track State Championship meet is moving to a two-day event,” said Kristin Frazer, NYSPHSAA Boys Indoor Track and Field State Coordinator. “We are excited for this change and the opportunities it presents to our athletes.  Our committee is looking forward to working with the NYSPHSAA staff, officials, venue and coaches to ensure that it is a positive, competitive experience for our athletes.  March 6th & March 7th will showcase the top talent in New York State.”

Last year, multiple athletes were able to accomplish the impressive feat of winning back-to-back state Championships in the same event. The athletes on the girls side who were able to do this were Sarah Doresca of Baldwin (Section VIII) in the 55-meter dash, Gabriella Vizcarrondo of Nanuet (Section I) in weight throw and Jillian Scully of Miller Place (Section IX) in shot put. On the boys side, Ryan Rauber of Tully (Section III) won his second straight 300-meter dash and Luke Beattie of Warwick Valley (Section IX) took home the victory in pole vault for a second straight year.

“We are working to make this the best meet of the year and know with the competition and enthusiastic fans the event will be a great experience for everyone,” said Bob Wallen, NYSPHSAA Girls Indoor Track State Coordinator. “Student-athletes work hard all year to qualify and will be competing in the pinnacle event of the season at arguably the best venue in the state.”

There are multiple champions from 2025 returning to this year’s state meet including Claudel Chery of North Rockland (Section I), Ryan Buskey of Colonie (Section 2), and Beattie who is actually seeking his third straight championship. Returning girls winners include Jane Hickey of Ursuline (Section I), Meaghan Lynch of Schuylerville (Section 2), Anna Eells of Cicero-North Syracuse (Section III), Cella McLaughlin of Corning (Section IV), Breanne Barnett of Baldwin (Section VIII), and Ella Michelitch of Minisink Valley (IX).

With the addition of two-division relays this year, there will be nearly 1,500 athletes competing for a state title, which is more than last year’s total of 1,292 athletes who all ran in a one division meet. Competitors will hail from the 11 NYSPHSAA member sections as well as the Public School Athletic League (PSAL), Alliance of Independent Schools (AIS) and Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA).

Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex is a 135,000 square foot, state-of-the-art indoor track and field facility with a banked track that can also convert from six to eight lanes with an incline up to 4 ½ feet. This allows for a mix of boys and girls competitions to happen simultaneously.

Tickets for the Indoor Track State Championships are ONLY available online at https://gofan.co/app/school/NYSPHSAA and are $13.60 each (including fees) which covers one full day of competition.

The event will be streamed on MileSplit thanks to the partnership with the NFHS Network, the official broadcasting partner of the NYSPHSAA State Championships.  Doors open one hour prior to the start of events, which begin at 2:00 pm with the Boys 55M Hurdles.
