Thank you for your interest in becoming a certified official in the state of New York. NYSPHSAA is promoting a new certification process for perspective officials using an online Officiating Education System from RefReps. Completing the 3 steps below will allow you to receive a provisional certification and work modified level games.
- Step 1
- Click on this link to visit the RefReps Education Center
- Select the sport you would like to student and click on Buy Now
- Create your account or Login in if you already have an account.
- Before checking out you MUST enter the following code in the code box: NY4REPS
- Complete the course and save or print out your certificate of completion.
- NOTE: Each local chapter has been given the curriculum for this course and will be a resource to you if you have any questions about the course. If you need information on who to contact in your local area you may reach out to Todd Nelson, tnelson@nysphsaa.org.
- Step 2
- Once you have completed the course, you will be directed to take the online NFHS Officials Exam. RefReps will provide the information you will need to register and complete the online NFHS Officials Exam. You will need to notify Todd Nelson, tnelson@nysphsaa.org when you have completed the exam so we can verify your score.

- Step 3
- Once your official exam has been verified you will be given information on how to get your fingerprint clearance. If you are a current school employee, you will not have to complete this step. This step is required for all officials in NYS through the NYS SAVE legislation. There is a fee to get your fingerprints taken but several sections will reimburse a portion of your fee.
Once you have completed all 3 steps, NYSPHSAA will notify your local chapter that you can now be assigned to modified level contests in your area. The local chapter will assist you with the other details you will need to join the chapter and get equipped for the season. If you have any questions or issues, you can reach out to Todd Nelson,
