LATHAM, NY – The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Inc. (NYSPHSAA) announces its winter 2025 Scholar-Athlete teams and number of Scholar-Athlete individuals per team. This is the 32
nd year NYSPHSAA has conducted the Scholar-Athlete program.
NYSPHSAA recognized 38,598 students receiving scholar-athlete distinction by earning an individual average of 90 or above this winter season, whether their team qualified or not. Additionally, 3,303 Scholar-Athlete teams have been recognized for the winter 2025 season. To qualify as a team, 75% of a team’s average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90%.
“Congratulations to the student-athletes on their rigorous efforts in the classroom,” said NYSPHSAA Executive Director, Dr. Robert Zayas. "Their relentless dedication to both interscholastic athletics and academics has earned them this well-deserved recognition—a truly impressive achievement. We applaud the more than 385,000 student-athletes who went above and beyond for their teams and for themselves."
This winter, 638 schools participated in the program- 81% of the NYSPHSAA membership.

Each season, schools are responsible for submitting the Scholar-Athlete information on the NYSPHSAA website. The Spring 2025 Scholar-Athlete submission opens on Monday, April 7, 2025, with a deadline to submit by Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Learn more about the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete opportunity
